Lithia
Springs, Ga.: The Douglas County Taxpayers Coalition (DCTC) is
happy to announce it has adopted a portion of Highway 78 (Bankhead Hwy) in Lithia Springs under the Georgia Department of
Transportation’s “Adopt
A Highway”
Program.
DCTC has adopted one mile of
Hwy. 78 (1/2 mile east and west of Sweetwater Road). GDOT has placed two signs marking the area adopted
by the organization.
Georgia’s Adopt-A-Highway program enlists citizen volunteer
help to remove litter from state roadsides. While saving taxpayer dollars, the
program provides recognition for participating companies and organizations,
brings the environmental and monetary costs of littering into public awareness,
and promotes civic responsibility and pride. The volunteers of the
Adopt-A-Highway program serve as visible reminders to the public that we are
all stewards of the land.
“We are proud to be a part of
this program. We join thousands of citizen from around the state in an effort
to help beautify our community”, said James Bell director of DCTC.
Bell said the first cleanup date we be Saturday April 25
in conjunction with other Earth Day events. Volunteers will gather at Annett Winn Elementary
School
parking lot at 10:00am. The cleanup
is expected to take 2 hours. Lunch and drinks will be provided to the
volunteers.
“We will remove bottles,
cans, signs and other debris from the right of ways”, Bell said. When people
drive through Lithia Springs we want them to know we are proud of our community
by keeping our roadways clean.”
