SPLOST Projects = Higher Taxes

Do you really want to pay higher property taxes?

Do you want to increase government spending?

According to SPLOST experts, that’s exactly what will happen if the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) passes!

Vote “NO” September 18.

According to researchers for the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, SPLOST projects increases county spending and does not decrease property taxes as the county contends.

“An extra dollar of SPLOST revenue results in a 50-cent increase in total spending.” Changhoon Jung, Dept. of Political Science Auburn University

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan agrees. “You can build these capital projects with SPLOST dollars, but you have to maintain and operate those projects with general funds (property taxes).” Tom Worthan 08/01/06

Former Cobb County Sheriff Bill Hutson (The Facility Group) recently said this; “Over a period of 20 years, only 10 percent of the cost of a jail is from construction, while 90 percent is operations expenses”. August 22, 2007

The proposed cost of the jail is $130 million. You do the numbers!

If you DO NOT vote your taxes will increase!

You can vote NOW! by absentee ballot or vote early Sept. 10-14 at the Douglas County courthouse. Call 770-920-7326 for more information and voting locations.
