There’s lots of confusion
concerning the proposed constitutional amendments on the November 4th
ballot. Advocates have done little to clear up the confusion about the vaguely
worded and misleading amendments that do not reflect the real meaning or intent.
This is a common tactic used to confuse voters.
My general rule is, if I
can’t clearly understand the wording, I simply vote NO. These amendments are deserving
of a NO vote.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008, Douglasville voters will make a decision that will
affect their property taxes for the next 20 years.
Voting YES on this $23
million property bond will increase your city property taxes. The total cost of
20 years of principal and interest has not been publicly revealed.
Why did the mayor and the
city council place such an important tax vote in a special election ballot
where few people will know of the issue and turn out to vote, rather than the
in the November general election?

From: James Bell, Douglas County Taxpayers Coalition
Dear DCTC Supporters,
As you may know, advance
voting is underway for the July 15
Primary Election. One important race this year is for Chairman of the Board
of Commissioners.
Igor Malanchuk
(Igor2008.com ) is challenging the incumbent Tom Worthan (www.TomWorthan.net ) in the Republican Primary.
I am supporting and will be voting for Mr. Malanchuk
and here’s why.

I received an anonymous E-mail from “John” concerning the www.DouglasTaxes.com
“Tax Savings Calculator”. John’s concern was that the calculations were too
aggressive. The numbers were too high.
Here is what he said;
I think your tax savings calculator is a
little aggressive. At your current assumption the 1% sales tax would =
$40 million/year or $4 billion in taxable sales in Douglas County annually. The numbers I have show $899,440,748 in retail sales.
That would = $8.9 million/year in tax savings. Great idea though, I just
don't want you to loose credibility if someone starts thinking about those
numbers. John”
Thanks John for your interest and input. Here is my
response.
