ARBOR PLACE MALL - 2007/03/12 13:43 ITS BEEN HUSH-HUSH NEWS FOR YEARS, BUT IT HAS FINALLY COME TO A HEAD,THE GANG ACTIVITY AND YOUTH PROBLEMS AT THE MALL.I KNOW IT IS BAD FOR BUSINESS TO ADMIT THIS,BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM AT ALL MALLS IN METRO AREAS OF GA.I MAY GO TO THE MALL 3-4 TIMES A YEAR AND HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST HAND.MY QUESTION IS WHERE IS OUR LAW ENFORCMENT.OK,FIRST OF ALL,I SUPPORT D.C.LAW ENFORCMENT 100 PERCENT AND AM NOT TRYING TO BAD MOUTH OUR L.E. COMMUNITY.BUT, I HAVE WALKED FROM END TO END OF THE MALL AND NOT SEEN ONE L.E.O.I HAVE SEEN A COUPLE SECURITY GAURDS AND A COP CAR THERE A FEW TIMES BUT NEVER A DETERING PRESENCE OF L.E. AT THE MALL.I BELIEVE PUTTING 3-4 L.E.O.AT THE MALL ON WEEKENDS WOULD DETER ALOT OF THIS TROUBLE.MABEY THE STRATEGY IS TO KEEP ALL THESE KIDS CONFINED UNDER ONE ROOF AND IT WILL KEEP THEM OFF THE STREETS,I DONT KNOW.I JUST HATE TO SEE OUR MALL TURNED INTO A BABY SITTING ARENA FOR HOODLUMS.ARBOR PLACE MALL WAS TO BE THE CROWN JEWEL OF OUR COUNTY,I HOPE ONE DAY IT WILL BE....SS.

Re:ARBOR PLACE MALL - 2007/03/16 00:55 What evidence do you have of "gang activity". I hear alot about it but little proof is offered to support it. I have spoken to the Principal at a HS and with the city police, they say the claims are hyped by the S.O. and Mr. Mulcare. One incident of "gang activity" that occurred and was reported in the news paper, was nothing more than a kid bullying another. Graffitti has always been around in Douglas County. Years ago it was "KKK" and "A" anarcist and swastikas. It's a far leap to say graffitti is proof that DC has gangs. When you say "gangs" what do you mean? Kids hanging out together? Organized criminals? Kids emulating pop culture? The incident at the mall was blown up by hype. Rumors were that 15 gang members had a fight in the parking lot. A D'ville officer who was working at APMall told me there was 4 teenagers who had a fight and a gun and pipe were found. The others had been to watch a moive and went outside to watch. It apparantly was over a ball game not "gang related" activity. The mall is one of the safest places in DC. Cameras are every where. While you don't see many uniformed officers, they are there watching. I go to the mall every week and have seen no problems. Ever county is going to have its share of crime, vandalism. DC needs to be careful not to cry wolf to often. I understand the need to bring the potential of gangs to light. But it has gone from "we have gangs" to "we just want you to know the potential" of gang activity. DC has created a nightmare for the Chamber of Commerce. Based on what I have learned, the "gang" problem is nothing more than hype. I smell politics. CT

Re:ARBOR PLACE MALL - 2007/03/19 13:10 GANGS,GROUPS OF FOUL MOUTH PUNKS WALKING 4 WIDE THROUGH THE MALL BUMPING INTO PEOPLE,LOOKING FOR A CONFRONTATION,I HAVE SEEN IT MANY TIMES AT THE MALL.A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE IS A LOSS PREVENTION AGENT AT ONE OF THE ANCHOR STORES AND SEES THIS ACTIVITY OFTEN.C/T,I DO AGREE WITH YOUR POINT ABOUT GANG ACTIVITY BEING OVER HYPED IN D.C.I GUESS ITS WHAT YOUR DEFINITION OF A GANG IS.I DONT THINK WE HAVE ANY,OR MANY, OF THE REAL BADASS GANGS LIKE THE ONES IN MORE URBAN AREAS,NOT YET ANYWAY.MOSTLY JUST WANNABES,TRYING TO IMPRESS THEIR FRIENDS.
